Demetrius Hill is a hard-hitting and instinctive safety returning to FIU for his redshirt junior season after spending the last two years at Illinois. A Miami native and one of the most decorated young defenders in FIU history, Hill brings leadership, experience, and playmaking ability back to the Panthers’ secondary.
Hill began his college career at FIU and made an immediate impact in 2022, earning national recognition as a Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American — just the second in program history alongside T.Y. Hilton.
He started all 12 games that season, racking up 95 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, three forced fumbles, and an interception. He had four games with double-digit tackles, including a career-high 13 stops and a forced fumble against Middle Tennessee.
After transferring to Illinois, Hill saw limited action due to injury. He appeared in one game during the 2023 season before being sidelined, and he did not see game action in 2024.
A product of Miami Springs High School, Hill was rated as a three-star recruit and ranked among the top 100 players in Florida. In high school, he starred as both a safety and quarterback, showcasing elite versatility and athleticism. He was recruited by major programs including Florida, Penn State, and FAU.
Now back where it all started, Hill is ready to lead by example and anchor FIU’s defense. With his high football IQ, physicality, and passion for the game, he’s set to be one of the most impactful players on the field in 2025.
